Marty Silverthorne

September 4, 2018:

Marty Silverthorne will be the Featured Poet at the Nexus Poet’s Poetry Open Mic at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, September 4 at the Harrison Center, 311 Middle Street in New Bern.

Marty Silverthorne has received numerous awards and has authored six chapbooks: Holy Ghosts of Whiskey, Ten Poems by Marty Silverthorne, Rewinding at 40, No Welfare No Pension Plan, Pot Liquor Promises, and Dry Skin Messiah.

Joseph Bathanti, former NC Poet Laureate, said this about his poetry,  “Silverthorne – through sheer bravado, wrought with iron, still white hot from the forge – gives voice to the ineffable. I’m not sure how he managed to pull these poems off – the jolting candor, the emotional voltage, the jackhammer beat. In Naming the Scars, Silverthorne brandishes his living will and his will to live.”

After the Featured Poet reads, the mic is open for original poems from other poets who sign up. The Harrison Center, is located at 311 Middle Street in New Bern. This is a free event with donations requested to pay for the space. The readings are sponsored by the Nexus Poets, a group of New Bern poets promoting poetry in Eastern North Carolina.
